Today's fortune: January 2, 2011

Today's fortune: Your luck will soon be at a high point.

It sure was a lot of fun opening up today's fortune on live TV. And when NBC Action News anchor Amy Hawley asked what I would write about with the above fortune, the first thing that came to my mind was, "I'm lucky as hell to be here, talking about this project on live television!"

The small amount of attention I've received for this blog so far is hopefully just the tip of the iceberg. If my luck is reaching a high point soon, that surely means I'll be known far and wide as "that jerk from Kansas who opens the fortune cookies."

Another high point in my luck life is my new job, which I've talked about before on this blog. After being unemployed for two months - and almost a full year before a temporary job in 2009 - I was due for a stroke of luck. I am fortunate enough to work for a company that values its employees, provides excellent benefits and offers job security.

But I have to admit... luck finds me most often when I listen to my wife.

She's the one who inspired me, even after I started a day job, to proceed with this blog. And Jamie is the one who coached me through a mock interview, which helped me land the job.

So for me, that's what this fortune means: I need to pay attention to my wife more. Not just in 2011, but for the rest of our lives.

Okay, enough sappy stuff. I guess there's also a portent of warning in today's fortune. I'm 31 years old and I hope to have a lot of years left ahead of me. If my luck is going to reach a high point soon (and everyone's definition of "soon" is different), I may peak too early, and I'll never be as lucky as I am in, say, two months.

I must capitalize on my luck now, and seize every opportunity I can find, at work, with this blog and elsewhere.

To steal the tagline from yesterday's fortune: "Now is the time!"

This is Matt's wife (the wise one). For those of you who know us personally, we were in dire need of some luck.

Matt, in our relatively short marriage, we have seen each other through job losses, had two cars stolen, my broken ankle & gallbladder surgery, and various other setbacks. I say, "LET IT PEAK NOW!"

But seriously, what I take the fortune to mean is that life is full of highs and lows - you can rest assured (finally) that this is a high time.

And it truly is. With your new job and me so close to getting my degree, I feel like we can breathe a little easier now.

I'm sure we'll see many more highs and lows, but I count myself LUCKY to have you by my side through all of them.

    (Now THAT is SAPPY!)

    Jamie
