Today's fortune: June 7, 2011

Today's fortune: You are wise to keep your eyes wide open at all times this week.

This fortune proved to be particularly difficult, because I woke up this morning with a brain-splitting headache that didn't go away until... oh, that's right, it hasn't gone away. Forget about keeping my eyes wide open - opening my eyes beyond a slit is a challenge right now. My eyes are completely closed as I type this, so if I misspell something I apolojive.

This post is going to be short and sweet - and then I'm going to apply a cold compress to my head and attempt to pass out.

Although my eyes were no more open than usual, I did make a point to take notice of a few things surrounding me on my way to work this morning.

First: along the interstate, I saw a big brave hawk perched on a mile marker sign, only a few feet away from the whooshing traffic.

Second: After I turn off the interstate, I proceed a couple miles down a boulevard each morning. Normally I don't take notice of the boulevard except for the speed limit signs (45 feels a whole lot slower than 70). Today, I actually looked. And what I saw was, surprisingly, beautiful. The corridor is a nice, wide street with a large tree-lined median in the middle. All along the street, you can find manicured bushes and landscaping, intricate stonework and fountains.

These are the things that disappear into the background if you don't take the time to look.
