Today's fortune: July 21, 2011

Today's fortune: You were born with a "sixth sense" and superb insight.

I spent the day searching for my sixth sense. And I don't know what it is. But I do have a few possibles.

However, I discovered some interesting things with my other five senses today during the journey. Let's have a look:

HEARING: Walking down the hall today, I overheard something said by one of my co-workers, one of those random bits of information you hear during the course of your life. The woman said, "I do smell it; it smells like diesel fuel."

SMELL: I could smell diesel fuel.

TASTE: Summer corn on the cob. My parents have an in with a local farmer who sells his goods at a farmer's market. A few weeks ago, they gave us a dozen ears of some of the best corn I've ever wrapped my teeth around, and I've insisted that my parents keep us stocked up with a dozen ears of corn every week for the rest of the summer. Jamie is boiling up a mess of it right now, and it'll be our dinner tonight:

SIGHT: Late in the afternoon, as I was walking past the desk of Ty, one of my friends, I noticed a light shining from underneath the shelf in his cubicle. Then I noticed everybody else in his row had lights shining down. My first thought was, "Hey! Ty's supervisor gave everybody a light for their desk! Why didn't my supervisor give me a light?" Then, when I returned to the cubicle, I looked underneath the shelf and I'll be damned if I didn't have a light too! I've been sitting at that desk for seven months and I swear I'd never seen that light before today.

TOUCH: When I came home tonight, I walked around to each of our three cats, and I petted them on their undercarriage, on the spot Jamie and I refer to as either "Pinky Whiteness" or "Whitey Pinkness." You know the place - it's on every cat, and no matter what color the cat is, the spot is white with a shade of pink (or vice versa).

So what's my sixth sense? I don't know. It could be any number of things, including empathy, compassion, karate, smarts, or of course, comedic timing.

It doesn't really matter. Right now, I'm going to follow my sense of smell to the kitchen and fix up a plate of corn and fried potatoes. Then Jamie and I are going to sit down to one of her favorite movies.
