Today's fortune: December 26, 2011

Today's fortune: A surprise treat awaits you.

Never have truer words been written.

When Jamie and I woke up this morning, she asked what I wanted for breakfast. I said something quick and easy, like leftover pizza. She had this to say:

"I want to make you a big breakfast. This is your last day off before you have to go back to work, and I want it to be special."

This is not the surprise. My wife is awesome, and she cooks for me all the time - even though I outed her as a snorer in yesterday's post.

So as Jamie headed to the kitchen to work on breakfast, I came into the office and opened today's fortune cookie, filled out my lottery slip and played a little Words With Friends on my new tablet PC. When I walked out of the office? That's when I got the surprise treat.

My wife was making one of my favorite breakfasts of all time: a chili omelet.

We first tasted this dish at a small restaurant many years ago and had never seen it on a menu since, but we became hooked on making them at home. It's super-simple, too: make an omelet shell out of two or three eggs, put some warm chili in the middle, fold it over and throw some sour cream and cheese on top. You can use canned chili, but your favorite homemade chili is even better - and that's how Jamie made it this morning.

Another surprise this morning was discovering today was the 360th day of the year. I can't believe we're down to the final five days of this project. It's been amazing, and I'll truly miss it. We hope you can join us on December 31 to celebrate. Click here for details!
