Looks like May 22, 2011, will be an important day in the brief history of My Daily Fortune. Not only will I be opening a cookie that day (as usual), I will also be writing about what today's fortune means.
As you can see, May 22 falls on a Sunday, so I won't be working. Actually, good things are always in store for me on Sundays. I love Sundays. It's my favorite day of the week. Jamie and I have this wonderful Sunday newspaper tradition, which I've already written about on this blog.
So I already know Sunday, May 22, will be awesome. But I don't really think this fortune is referring to the fact that the date falls on a Sunday. It's referring to the date itself.
Let's look at May 22. Here's what I know about the date, all of which is shamelessly culled from Wikipedia - so feel free to take it with a grain of salt. Vice President Aaron Burr was indicted for treason on May 22, 1807. The Wright Brothers patented their "flying machine" on May 22, 1906. Ted Williams (the baseball player, not the homeless guy with the big voice) enlisted in the Marines on May 22, 1942. The arcade game Pac-Man was released on May 22, 1980. And Johnny Carson last hosted The Tonight Show on May 22, 1992.
May 22 birthdays include speed-skater Apolo Ohno, model Naomi Campbell, songwriter Bernie Taupin, Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, baseball player and arm surgery namesake Tommy John and the late, great Sir Laurence Olivier.
May 22 will be National Maritime Day in the U.S. and Harvey Milk Day in California. (Milk was also born on May 22.)
Oh, and this: there's a sports stadium in Yemen called May 22 Stadium. Wikipedia is disappointingly silent on the meaning of the name.
May 22 Stadium - What are the odds?
But I don't think I'll be visiting Yemen, celebrating National Maritime Day or attending Naomi Campbell's birthday bash on May 22, 2011.
And besides reading the paper that morning, I have no idea what I'll be doing on May 22.
But... here's something. Above, I mentioned our Sunday morning tradition, and I linked to the January 13 post where I wrote about said tradition. The fortune for January 13 was, "Need adventure and enjoyment? Take a vacation."
By May 22, I just might have a few vacation days in the stockpile. Jamie and I could sandwich a lovely getaway around that weekend. Maybe we could go back to the Smoky Mountains and re-live our honeymoon. Maybe we could go to South Carolina and spend time on the beach. Hell, maybe we could go to San Francisco and celebrate Harvey Milk Day.
May 22 will be a good day indeed. I'll be on vacation.
In January I got this same fortune. I was excited to see my date was landing on Good Friday, which is also Earth Day this year! Too meaningful things to me.
