Today's fortune: November 9, 2011

Today's fortune: Good sense is the master of human life.

Winter is upon us, friends.

I know it's not official. Winter doesn't officially begin until December (I think), but the last week or so, especially since Daylight Savings Time ended, it's winter in my book. It's not dark when I go to work in the mornings and dark when I come home. I have to scrape ice and drive with care because of the fear of black ice on the road.

So today's fortune is a strong reminder that it's important to have good sense, especially as a winter driver. And having good sense in the winter may save lives, including your own.

Jamie and I are both driving cars with new tires, which is the biggest part of the battle. Jamie's ride is four-wheel drive, so she's set, as long as she takes it slow and leaves plenty of space between her and the car in front of her. My rear-wheel-drive pickup is awful on the ice, but this weekend I'll throw my sandbags in the back, which should give me a little more traction in the ice and snow.

I'll be driving slower from now on. And you should, too. Stay safe out there.
