Today's fortune: September 13, 2011

Today's fortune: He who hurries cannot walk with dignity.

On my computer desktop, I keep a notepad open all the time. In the mornings, after I open my cookie, I often jot down any ideas that immediately pop into my mind so I don't forget them at the end of the day when I write about the fortunes.  When I came home from work, a note that I didn't write was typed in all caps on the notepad:

VERY WISE ADVICE - REMEMBER THIS NEXT TIME
YOU HURRY ME AND TELL ME WE DON'T HAVE TIME
TO GO TO THE POST OFFICE. CUZ WHEN WE GET
WHERE WE'RE GOIN' 15 MINUTES EARLY AND COULD
HAVE GONE TO THE POST OFFICE 3X OVER, I WILL
KICK YOU RIGHT IN THE "DIGNITY." ;-)

That's the wit and wisdom of my beautiful wife, Jamie, who still seems to be sore over me rushing her the other day.

But Jamie's right. I do need to slow down and relax a bit. I can be a little overbearing (see: Jamie's note) when it comes to schedules and being on time. I come by it honestly. My mother is the same way. My older brother is even worse.

So I tried my best today to slow down. It was difficult, because I was running late this morning (because I hit the "Snooze" button on the alarm clock one too many times - you know what I'm talkin' about). But as I drove to work, I took special care to drive exactly the speed limit - which is a few miles less than I normally drive. Okay, sometimes more than a few. Today, I set the cruise control and nailed the needle to the speed limit.

This picture was just as difficult and dangerous to take as you'd imagine.

I was at work only a few minutes later than normal, and the fortune cookie gods took care to make sure a parking space was still available for me.

Patience will serve me well in my ukelele studies as well. I don't know how to play a song yet, only some random notes and cords. "Mary Had A Little Lamb" is something I'm shooting for right now. I might even be there in a few days.

But no hurry.
