Today's fortune: September 26, 2011

Today's fortune: A handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.

An interestingly-worded fortune for a Monday. I like this expression, and I'll probably start using it in my regular vocabulary.

And patience is a powerful concept for me right now. I still haven't heard whether I got that gig I applied for at work, and it's starting to drive me a little bonkers. But according to this fortune, I can afford to lose some of my brains as long as I hold on to a handful of patience. Having patience also means I can realize that if I don't get this gig, it's no big deal. Another one will come along in due course.

I also used patience today to help a couple friends. An old pal of mine is applying for a job at my office. She has an interview this week, but she's stressing out about it, because she's applied for several jobs at Acme Co. with no luck. I was able to share some of my experience, and hopefully it comforted her - I too applied several times at Acme before they hired me, and I can't count how many times I've applied for jobs where it seemed like I was the perfect candidate. I didn't get any of those jobs.

Another friend seemed to be stressed out at work today, so I shared my fortune with her. I think she'll take it to heart.

CARROT UPDATE
Today's carrot was plain, but yesterday Jamie shredded my carrot and served it to me over pasta. It was delicious, and yes, it was a whole carrot.
